Greta Thunberg isn’t the only teenager to champion a message of direct environmental responsibility, with Georgia, Daisy, Jonah, Kathy and Aliya from Year 12 rallying to her call for social action.
Dane Court was delighted to welcome six newly crowned world champions back to school after the summer break. Taking first place in the Under 16 category at the UDO World Street Dance Championships held in Blackpool, the girls showcased a three minute dance routine based on the popular television series “Peaky Blinders”.
Wearing the iconic costumes of suits and trademark flat caps, the six girls impressed the judging panel with their blend of complex choreography, inspired interpretation and finely honed skill and timing mixed in with a strong dash of passion and enthusiasm. Fans of the television series would be impressed with the girls’ skilful reworking of some of the storylines and themes as they successfully translated scenes into the street dance arena. The impressive World Trophy now resides at WiseWoods Dance School where the girls are hoping to add to their silverware with their qualification into the advanced level of the competition.
Year 13 student Reuben proved he is a true sultan of swing with the news that he has gained a place in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Orchestra Academy Big Band based in Bethnal Green London.
Another hard-working bunch of year 11 students reach the end of their GCSE quest. Rewarded with the now traditional Red Carpet event, they arrived in disguise (so smartly dressed they were difficult to identify). The imminent threat of rain could not dampen their spirits as they took their turn to walk the avenue of admiring parents, staff and younger students.
Of course, we look forward to welcoming them back in September when the vast majority will embark on challenging but even more rewarding International Baccalaureate courses.
The Dane Court Grammar School Parents Association's monthly boot fairs usually take place at the school from 6:30am on the second Saturday of each month with breaks over winter and during the summer holiday. Read more...
